Grocery bag art: part 1

This came from recycled Trader Joe's grocery bags. So I guess I'm re-recycling? Anyways, I really liked these pictures and wanted to incorporate them into a page in my sketchbook. Voila.

Tess posted a funny video of an asian boy playing a song and when I clicked to watch it on YouTube, I found this one in the similar videos column. I really cannot handle the eyebrows at the end.

Eeeeeee

15% off anything Anthro in June for my birthday and I have my eye on this little number. Apron!!!
I saw it today when I was at Stoneypoint with Heather and Stephanie. We didn't plan on seeing seven(!!!) other weagers there. We're sitting outside of Chipotle and pastor Shane and another man come walking up...then we're standing in line to get food only to find Nikki and Lisa roll in. Then Jackie walks into Anthro for her shift. Thennnnn we're in a really random Hallmark-esque store and Colin and Anna walk in. Probably the most random store they could have found us in. Anyhoo. Happy Wednesday.

Yes yes

I wouldn't think anyone likes to use the term "control freak" when they're speaking of themselves, but sometimes you have to admit to the person that you are. All of you, good and bad. I've realized lately that I'm more...controlling...than I realized. Not with everything, but with some things. I just hope the positive aspects of myself out-weigh the negative.
So that's that. The art auction was really great. My little photograph (double decker bus) was bought by Gabe after a small bidding war between her and Stephanie. Heheh. My other piece got ruined...I don't want to get into that. Tess made this and I bought it-
It's neat :) I also got some "nautical" magnets that Joni made. I outbid her dad in that last 10 seconds. sooooo. Annemarie and Tess' Richmond piece(s) sold for $275 I was so proud of them! It's awesome how much money we got rollin' in for choir tour.
I'm so stoked on summer right now and I made a play list that incluuuuuudes: Musical Youth.MGMT.My Morning Jacket.No Doubt.The Polyphonic Spree.Passion Pit.Matt&Kim.The Manchester Orchestra.Jimmy Eat World.Hjaltalin.Gnarls Barkley.The Flaming Lips.Coldplay.Blink 182.ASOB.The Flaming Tsunamis.Matt Costa.Rusted Root.Joan Jett.
feel good music for feel good months.
Heather - this is coming to you tomorrow night :)

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living.
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them, men are old.
may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple;
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young
and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile.

USA! USA! USA!

The world cup is the only sporting event that I will watch. And I'm so stoked it's in South Africa this year! The theme music at the beginning of every game makes me wanna say "where's Simba??" seriously....and my family's home country Slovenia is playing tomorrow night at 7 against I thiiiink Argentina. I'm gonna be so rowdy during that game since I take pride in my Slovenian background. I guessss I'm okay with the fact that USA tied with England, it could have been worse. We have a really good goalie. And if you watched the game....well, you know I can't say the same for England haha it's a little sad. Anyhoo...there's the South Korea game tonight and the channel that it's on isn't working on my tv so maybe I'll go down the street to Jblair's and watch it at his house.
Ronaldo, don't let them see you cry!

Art Auction

So I haven't been doing anything for the art auction coming up on Sunday but today I went to Michael's because I had to buy some paint, and then I saw these photo mats that would be perfect for me to use in the auction. Photography was the only thing I ever thought about putting into the auction because I think I'm too attached to my other artwork haha. So this is what I'm selling:

I also wanted to do this picture
but I didn't have enough money to get 2 mats plus the paint...so I guess I'll have to go back to Michael's tomorrow to get another one, mat it, then drop it off by the office.

Oh car troubles...

Just thought everyone should know...the lovely Nikki and John are lookin' out for the youth! My car was out of gas in the church parking lot yesterday and wouldn't go anywhere. Luckily, John is a pro when it comes to car troubles; it was quite comforting. My battery and oil light was on, so after trying to jump the car with no prevail, they drove me to a gas station to fill up the gallon gas container I found in my trunk. Nikki even bought the gallon for me. What a doll. They're awesome. <3 Even though it was a very hot miserable day, it was okay because Nikki kept me entertained with her fear of the jumper cables. John connected them to the van and asked Nikki to hold the other ends and "not let them touch". Her answer: "Noooo! ahhh." He responded "I mean...if they touch it wont necessarily killll you.." In the end, the car worked after pouring the gas in back at church. good times, good times...

A little sleep deprived.

I've been out of school a few weeks but it officially feels like summer since I curled up for sleep at 6 a.m. There was a dance party that David and Preston threw in celebration of David's birthday that's coming up on the 9th. Twas fun. Danced, had a stranger invade my personal space, sat on the floor upstairs cooling off with Kathryn Lauren and Jesse, laid in the neighbor's super long comfy grass and looked at the few stars that were out, and partook in some nice pipe tobacco. Once some boys randomly brought a couch out to the front yard (for who knows why), Jblair and I sat on it having a debate about why it's okay for a girl to touch a guy's boob but isn't okay for a guy to touch a girl's. Always interesting. Lauren and I left and I only remember the time because it was 4:20. Soooo my record for how late I stay out keeps getting better. Oh summer, I love thee. We went back to the Grove apt. and ate our "whirled peace" ben & jerry's. Then hit the hay. I'm exhausted but don't feel like sleeping at the moment. Hope you all have a spunky weekend.

So...

I watched a new episode of Vanguard last night. I wont go into detail because I don't want to be super repetitive with blog post subjects or bore you guys. But lets just say this one was about the sorts of things that go on in Indian reservations out West. Being aware of what other people groups are experiencing tears me apart and makes me really grateful for where I live sometimes. I just can't help but think about how much humans are broken. I'm not really going anywhere particular with this. Just posting what's on my mind.

Another random note: I was channel surfing and came across Save the Last Dance for a few seconds and while I was watching it this black girl was talking to Julia Stiles and was like "you white girls come in here and try to...blahblahblah" and I was just thinking how it would NEVER be ok for a white person to say "you black girls..." Why is that? We get so much hate for racism, but it's cool for someone who's black to treat us any way that they want? I donttttt get it.

Third note: curfew makes me sad.

Feeling posi!

I don't know. I just feel really happy and it's sunny and I'm out of school and I love people and I can't wait to go to Africa after a couple college courses then I can't wait to be a baker and have an adorable place to live in and a garden and a husband and it's all just too exciting. I'm listening to Joe Purdy and loving it. He does that song "I just can't seem to get it right today....just can't seem to get it right today. Just can't seem to get it right today...I guess I'm gonna give uuup. Ooooh I guess I'm gonna give up." Which sounds really negative but it's a neat song :p

ps. After I was done being creeped out by this HUGE dead moth I found on my bathroom counter I decided to take pictures of it...I know I'm strange. Ewsies.
